ITI-205 Network Virtualization and Storage Concepts

4 Credit hours - 2 Lecture, 2 Lab

Prerequisite(s): Grade of “C” or better in ITI 110 and ITI 112.

Course Rationale:

This course introduces students to concepts and theories regarding the design and implementation of virtualization technologies and network storage with respect to practical application within modern enterprise networks.

Catalog Description:

This hands-on course provides students the opportunity to experience virtualization and network storage utilizing the following resources; VMware installation, configuration, and management (ICM) curriculum based on VMware vSphere ESXi and VMware vCenter Server will be used to provide an understanding of the components of enterprise level virtualization methods. EMC Information Storage and Management (ISM) will be used to provide an understanding of the varied components of modern information storage infrastructure, including virtual environments. Students will learn about the architectures, features, and benefits of Intelligent Storage Systems; business continuity solutions such as backup, replication, and archive; the increasingly critical area of information security; and the emerging field of cloud computing Citrix XenApp Administration will provide students the foundation necessary to effectively centralize and manage applications in the datacenter and instantly deliver them as a service to users anywhere.

Course Objectives

  1. Install and configure ESXi and vCenter Server components.

  2. Use vCenter Server to configure and manage ESXi networking and storage.

  3. Deploy, manage, and migrate virtual machines.

  4. Manage user access to the VMware and Citrix infrastructure.

  5. Use vCenter Server to monitor resource usage, increase scalability and manage higher availability and data protection.

  6. Use VMware vSphere Update Manager to apply ESXi patches.

  7. Configure CItrix XenApps Server.
