Course Rationale:

This course is geared towards preparing students to pass the CompTIA A+ certification, which is the first step of a professional IT journey. It is the preferred performance-based qualifying credential for technical support and IT operational roles. This course covers operating systems, general IT security, software troubleshooting, and operational procedures.

Catalog Description:

This course helps prepare students to pass the software/operating systems component of the CompTIA A+ certification. The following areas are covered in both a lecture and hands-on lab environment: operating systems installation and configuration, basic device security, software configuration and troubleshooting, and basic IT operational procedures.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Install, configure, and maintain software for end users

  2. Understand the basics of security forensics

  3. Properly and safely diagnose, resolve, and document common software issues

  4. Apply troubleshooting skills

  5. Provide appropriate customer support

  6. Understand the basics of scripting, desktop imaging and deployment
