Course Rationale:
This Cybersecurity Capstone course will serve as a culmination of academic experience for students pursuing a career in Cybersecurity. The cybersecurity landscape will always be evolving, and companies will increasingly rely on infrastructure that will create a larger digital footprint, and this will in turn yield a growing demand for professionals who can think critically, creatively, respond to real-world threats, and communicate effectively across both technical and non-technical domains.
The capstone provides a platform for students to demonstrate their readiness for the workforce or further study by simulating the multidisciplinary nature of cybersecurity roles. The course is structured to reflect real industry expectations, with an emphasis on end-to-end problem solving, tool proficiency, adherence to policy frameworks, and effective communication with both technical stakeholders and organizational leadership.
Catalog Description:
This course will dive into the core topics of Cybersecurity and will give the student the opportunity to experience real world scenarios that will explore Red Teaming, Blue Teaming, and Purple Teaming. More specifically, the student will explore penetration testing, working in a SOC, analysis, scripting, and the management and administration of such activities. The activities performed in this course will reflect real world technology, standards, and best practices that are used every day in Cybersecurity.
Course Objectives
Review and demonstrate procedures for industry standard practices for penetration testing.
Integrate prior knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, tools, and practices into comprehensive applied projects.
Analyze complex security problems and develop practical, ethical, and standards-aligned solutions.
Communicate cybersecurity findings and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Reflect on ethical, legal, and policy implications in cybersecurity decision-making.
Simulate and analyze real-world cybersecurity scenarios comprising offensive, defensive, and administrative contexts.
