CYB-253 Ethical Hacking

Prerequisite(s): A grade of “C” or better in CYB 223, CYB 226.

Course Rationale:
The modern digital lifestyle leaves users constantly exposed to creative techniques of achieving optimal information security posture in the target organization – by hacking it! Students will learn how to scan, test, hack, and secure target systems. This course covers the Five Phases of Ethical Hacking: Diving into Reconnaissance, Gaining Access, Enumeration, Maintaining Access, and Covering Your Tracks.
Catalog Description:
This class is designed to provide students an insight of current security scenarios and increasing hacking attempts on various information systems. The goal of the ethical hacking and countermeasures is to help the organizations take preemptive measures against malicious attacks by attacking the system themselves while staying within legal limits.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
Assess ethical and legal requirements of security assessment and penetration testing and determine a strategy to comply with these requirements.
Compare and contrast different hacking techniques and analyze the legal implications of hacking.
Analyze cryptography algorithms and encryption techniques, and design implementation strategies for securing information.
Assess various network security techniques and tools and implement appropriate level of information security controls based on evidence, information, and research.
