Course Rationale:
To provide students with an opportunity to learn the foundations of systems design and database and the application of programming and logic solutions to typical business problems. Using systems design and database to provide enterprise-wide business, organizational and managerial solutions.
Catalog Description:
In this course, students will use systems design and database to provide enterprise-wide business, organizational and managerial solutions.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Identify and explain systems theory, list and discuss the systems components.
Describe in-depth the phases of the systems development life cycle.
Discuss the steps in developing software.
Discuss the steps in selecting, implementing, and maintaining a system.
Identify, describe, and explore use of types of information systems.
Explore systems theory and development.
Describe development methodologies, programming and system languages, database technologies, data communications, and Computer Aided Systems Engineering (CASE) tools.
Identify and describe the elements of IS planning and installation management.
Contribute to a team managing the design of a project using project management techniques within SDLC or other appropriate methodology.
Propose, present, and defend a recommended solution.
Demonstrate the appropriate use of human computer interfaces, change management, training, and procedure conversion. Projects designed for Internet implementation will also be examined.
Describe how to incorporate the above information into a real-life systems development situation.
Describe the significance of professionalism and ethical behavior.

Test Out Requirements
Students who wish to demonstrate proficiency in this course will need to complete a Departmental proficiency exam. Departmental proficiency examinations are created by appropriate college faculty to allow students to demonstrate their mastery of course content in designated subjects. These examinations will be equivalent to the cumulative final assessment used in the course. Faculty will determine the minimum score required to earn credit by exam for these courses.
